I am first and foremost an actor. To that end, I am chiefly concerned with, as Sanford Meisner says: “behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances.” I was not born an actor, hatching onto a stage like so many of my colleagues. I did do some stage acting early on in my young adult life, but I succumbed to the lie that acting isn’t a “real” job. Voice acting saved my sanity in many ways, leading me back to a passion that I thought was dead and buried. In the meantime, I gathered much in the way of experiences and education: Foreign language degrees, teaching, professional pilot, Tall Ship sailor, US Navy veteran and crypto-linguist in Arabic, 1830’s living history, and more. I’m not saying I’m the most interesting guy in the room, but he and I can talk.

My position on A.I. / Synthetic Voice / Voice Cloning
You may notice that in the age of AI, I am not a subscriber. I reject the notion that “It’s here to stay after all, and if you can’t beat ’em, join ’em! Why not profit from it?” I can’t do that, because I reject the phony. I reject ersatz, the same as I would reject sawdust in my sausage. Because I care: I care about authenticity. I care about the human element in voice acting. I think there is inherent value – value in and of itself – in human-crafted art. I connect to the listener – personally. I make a product that you and I can be proud of, not something produced as a cheap “good enough” alternative or ersatz. A soul is necessary to connect with other souls. That copy you wrote to connect you to the people you’re trying to communicate with…don’t you want it acted, rather than just recited? I mean, you are interested in communicating, are you not? I’m not against machines, but machines don’t have a soul and they have no business in areas where souls belong. Your competition may beat you on price, but you’ll have the better product.
